2 raccoons found with rabies in Suffolk County
The department of health services says these are the 43rd and 44th positive rabies confirmations since Feb. 7, 2025.

Two raccoons have tested positive for rabies after being found in Suffolk County.
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services says one was found dead on a resident's property in Bay Shore. An animal control officer from the Islip Animal Shelter responded and submitted the raccoon for testing.
The other raccoon was found alive outside a different resident's property in Babylon. A resident came into contact with the racoon and sought medical attention. They are currently in good health, according to the department of health services.
Suffolk County police later located the racoon and submitted it for testing.

Suffolk police ask anyone who sees a raccoon acting abnormally to call the department at 631-852-COPS or the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at 631-444-0250.
