Westbury Mayor Peter Cavallaro has asked the Department of Transportation to lower the speed limit on Jericho Turnpike.
Cavallaro wants the limit reduced from 55 mph to 40 mph. Jericho Turnpike has varying speed limits posted in different areas. Local officials feel the road is a deathtrap.
"Something needs to be done," says Cavallaro.
