Distracted driving crashes continue to kill and injure thousands

Suffolk police say a 62-year-old motorcyclist was killed late Sunday morning in a crash in Brentwood.

Detectives say it happened 5th Avenue and Candlewood Road just before 12 p.m.

According to investigators, an 18-year-old woman was driving a 2007 Honda Accord northbound on 5th Avenue and attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot near Candlewood Road when she collided with a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja that was going southbound.

Jose Morales, of Bay Shore, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 18-year-old woman, also from Bay Shore, was not injured. Both the motorcycle and car were impounded for safety checks.
