Investigators are trying to determine what caused a powerful blaze Friday at a West Hempstead home.Officials say the fire started around 3 a.m. at side of the Maple Street home. It then crept up the walls, making it difficult to fight. Six different fire departments were needed at the scene. There were nine people in the house, including six children. Thanks to the family's father, everyone made it out safely. In fact, the dad, who neighbors say is a doctor, had to leave the scene while firefighters battled the flames to go to the hospital and deliver a baby. Fire officials say it doesn't appear there is anything salvageable in the house and that the fire doesn't appear suspicious.
