Get ready for some weather whiplash. After all the record-breaking warmth, some wintry weather will soon make its way to Long Island.
News 12 meteorologists say Sunday's 60-degree weather is giving way to cooler temperatures. Monday's highs will top out in just the low-40s.
The cooling trend will continue, and a wintry mix of snow and sleet is expected to arrive on Long Island overnight Monday and into early Tuesday morning.
The Tuesday morning commute could be affected by sleet and freezing rain, which may make for slippery roads. Drivers are urged to give themselves extra travel time.
By mid-morning Tuesday, the precipitation will change over to all rain as temperatures climb back up into the upper 40s. Periods of rain are expected for most of the day Tuesday.
There's still time for the forecast to change, so stay with News 12 Long Island and News12.com for the very latest forecast information.
Wednesday and Thursday are expected to see a return to unseaonable temperatures, with highs around 50 degrees. Thursday will see a chance of showers.
