Sen. Chuck Schumer launched a $3.2 billion federal budget proposal to help Long Island and the country fight opioid addiction.
The announcement comes just a day before National Fentanyl Awareness Day at a time when fatal overdoses are on the rise.
Schumer says the funds will increase critical Long Island prevention, treatment and recovery efforts to save lives.
"People are struggling, we can give people a good life, we can get them out of addiction and into good lives," Schumer says.
The Senate majority leader says Long Island's fatal overdose numbers were negatively affected by the pandemic and could stay high for years if the federal government doesn't take the right amount of action.
