Officials in the Town of Hempstead say that they're working to be ready for the snowstorm, especially in neighborhoods near the water.
Crews were seen clearing ice off ropes at Point Lookout to make sure boats were tied down securely.
Strong winds are also expected as part of the storm, which could lead to downed trees and power lines. PSEG Long Island says it has around 1,200 crews ready to go if needed.
The utility faced harsh criticism for its response to Tropical Storm Isaias, and officials say it has taken steps to do better this time.
Residents in the area are preparing to hunker down and hope the water doesn't get high enough to reach their homes.
In the Town of Oyster Bay, specialized trucks are ready to pump water away from streets if flooding is a problem.
