An Islip Terrace man is getting ready for a 50-mile journey from his home to One World Trade Center in Manhattan.
FDNY Lt. Brian Cross’s father, Dennis Cross – a battalion chief – was killed when the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed on 9/11.
Cross says he wants to honor his father’s sacrifice and pay tribute to all victims with his trek.
“He didn't die in vein…Along with other people – first responders, hard-working Americans that went to work that day,” he told News 12.
Cross’s walk, which has already
raised almost $15,000 for firefighter charities, begins at midnight. It should take him about 18 hours to complete.
