Dozens of concerned West Islip parents turned out for a school board meeting tonight to ask questions about the planned closures of two elementary schools. District officials announced last month that they plan to close Westbrook and Kirdahy elementary schools in an effort to shore up a budget gap. School officials estimate the move will save about $3 million. Parents say they're worried that the closures will result in crowded classrooms and a poorer quality of education. Some say they don't like the way the district has handled the proposal.2 elementary schools closing in West IslipWest Islip S.D. votes to close 2 elementary schools
