Volunteers place thousands of wreaths on headstones at LI National Cemetery
Volunteers placed more than than 46,000 wreaths the headstones of fallen heroes at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale Saturday for National Wreaths Across America Day.
The rainy weather did not stop more than 2,000 volunteers from turning out. It marked the annual Wreaths Across America Day.
Tractor-trailers delivered the wreaths, which were placed on the gravestones of veterans to honor their service.
Many of the volunteers say they do this to remember the fallen, honor those who served and teach the next generation about the value of sacrifice and freedom.
