The Village of Hempstead is cracking down on crime with a new initiative.
The Quality of Life Task Force will bring officials from different departments together to address public safety.
More police officers will also be patrolling downtown areas on bikes and in squad cars.
"Our parks are here for you to enjoy, but not for you to abuse by drinking in our parks and doing other illegal activities," says Hempstead Village Mayor Waylyn Hobbs Jr. "And so we will be strictly enforcing that this summer."
Hobbs says the changes are the product of a study into how the village could better protect its residents.
So far, the bike patrol has issued 81 violations and made 31 arrests.
