Friends and family are gathering Tuesday to remember the West Hempstead Stop & Shop manager who was fatally shot last week.
A viewing is being held for Ray Wishropp of Valley Stream at New Hyde Park Funeral home Tuesday. His funeral is Wednesday.
Wishropp was among three people shot inside the store's second-floor office last week. Two others are still recovering.
Friends of Wishropp told News 12 they are grief-stricken and in shock about what happened. They describe Wishropp as a hardworking, friendly man who was always willing to lend a hand.
"He was just an all-around good guy, and it just seems like that's who it happens to," says Mary Ellen Vicarious, of Valley Stream.
Wishropp's friends say he was a native of Guyana and came to the U.S. to pursue the American dream. The 49-year-old is survived by a wife and seven children.
Stop & Shop is helping to cover the family's funeral expenses and donated $500,000 to help those affected by the shooting.
