(AP) - The United States says a "vicious" attack on the U.S. Embassy in the Yemeni capital was a failed attempt to breach the compound's walls. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reportersWednesday that the embassy's security upgrades, combined with theresponse of security officials, stopped attackers armed withautomatic weapons, rocket-propelled grenades and at least onesuicide car bomb.
Officials say sixteen people were killed, including sixassailants.
McCormack says no Americans were hurt. He says one U.S. embassyguard from Yemen was killed, along with several Yemeni securityofficials.
