As the demand for post-Thanksgiving COVID-19 testing on Long Island grows, a Hicksville health care facility has reopened, along with a new drive-thru testing site in Jericho.
UrgentWay on Bethpage Road in Hicksville is now offering rapid COVID-19 testing, nasal PCR and antibody testing.
News 12 has been told the facility has the capacity to serve more than 100 people a day.
"We are opening our Hicksville office sooner than expected because of the current increase in COVID-19 cases," says Dr. Faika Khan, of UrgentWay.
Meanwhile, ProHEALTH Urgent Care of Jericho also opened up a drive-thru site on North Broadway. A line stretched through its parking lot Thursday with over 20 cars waiting for a test.
Dr. Bonnie Simmons says the urgent care is performing more tests now than at any other point in the pandemic. And she expects demand to remain high as Christmas, Hannukah and New Year's Eve approach.
If you're getting your children tested, be mindful of which test they get. Some school districts, like Plainview-Old Bethpage -- are recommending the slower, but more sensitive PCR test, especially if the child has any symptoms.
"We're seeing that children are getting the negative rapid test and find out three or four days later when the PCR is returned that it's positive," says Superintendent Dr. Mary O'Meara.
