Erin remains over the Atlantic, expected to strengthen into a major hurricane this weekend. While it poses no direct threat to Long Island, it will bring dangerous surf and rip currents locally next week. The News 12 Storm Watch Team will continue to monitor the track closely.

Keep the outdoor plans for the entire weekend! There will be some clouds at times and a stray rain shower, but most of the weekend will be dry with good beach and boating weather through Sunday. That will change as what will be Hurricane Erin misses Long Island to the south and east, but it will be close enough to bring dangerous surf and rip currents, especially in the Wednesday and Thursday timeframe.

Today will be a classic late summer day — warm, sunny, and noticeably humid. Highs will reach the low- to mid-80s with a breeze around 5 to 15 mph. Tonight will be warm and muggy with lows in the upper-60s to low-70s.

Saturday brings extra clouds in the morning and sunshine into the afternoon. It stays warm and humid with highs in the low-80s.

Sunday is similar — partly sunny, warm, and humid, with the chance for a quick shower or two. Any showers will be brief and scattered.
