Uniondale street renamed in memory of Nassau detective who responded on 9/11

A street in Uniondale has been renamed in honor of Detective Erick W. Contreras who died in Jan. 2021 from a 9/11-related illness.

A street in Uniondale has been renamed in honor of Detective Erick W. Contreras who died in Jan. 2021 from a 9/11-related illness.

Contreras, a 26-year veteran of the Nassau County Police Department, grew up on Union Drive, which is now named in his honor.

"He served with honor, integrity, and respect," said his sister Sharon Contreras.

Contreras was an alumnus of Uniondale High School, whose show choir performed the national anthem at the street dedication ceremony on Saturday.
