The bodies of two kayakers were recovered by crews near Hampton Bays early Wednesday morning, according to Southampton Town Police.

Authorities say the two men boarded a single-occupant double kayak near the Old South Ponquogue pier around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Concerned family members asked police for help locating the duo at 1:29 a.m. after they did not return.

Crews from multiple agencies were deployed for a large-scale search of the area.

Police say 25-year-old Daniel Villa, of Southampton, was found washed ashore at the northwest corner of the Ponquogue Bridge around 4 a.m.

Juan Carlos Penaranda, 43, of Quogue, was found washed ashore just north of Amalfi Restaurant in Hampton Bays shortly after.
