Members of a painters' union spent their Saturday helping a veteran in need.
District Council 9 Union members helped put the finishing touches on Billy Ventura's Selden home.
Ventura served in the Marines and is paralyzed from the waist down. A hit-and-run driver struck his motorcycle three years ago while he was on break from training. The driver has not been caught.
Since the accident, Ventura has been trying to get his life back with his service dog Molly by his side.
The family says the organization Building Homes for Heroes has helped to transform the entire downstairs for Ventura over the past two years to make it fully wheelchair-accessible.
"They're always here working and it really is an amazing thing," Ventura says. "I couldnt ask for anything more from them."
