A Freeport homeowner feels lucky to be alive after a car came barreling through her bedroom Sunday morning.
"I just thank God I'm alive and wasn't in the bedroom. I'm grateful to God," said the woman, who was too shaken up to appear on camera. She said she was making coffee in her kitchen when she heard a crash and felt her house shake.
According to police, a 19-year-old driver fell asleep at the wheel and went through the intersection of Merrick Road and Brookside Avenue. The vehicle sailed between bushes before hitting the home.
The driver was not injured and police do not expect to file charges, saying the incident was an accident.
The force of the crash split the homeowner's bed in two and destroyed her bedroom. The home was later boarded up.
