Parents are worried about frequent traffic jams outside Seaford Harbor School that are being caused in part by Superstorm Sandy repairs.
There is only one dead-end street leading to and from the school. Since Superstorm Sandy, parents say that dozens of construction vehicles often block the road.
Many parents say they're worried about how the school would be evacuated quickly in the event of an emergency.
One suggestion was to build an access road from the front of the school to a parallel street, but voters turned it down in 2011.
PTA president Deanine Nagengast says Seaford has the funds. She believes voters on the north side of the district may have voted the access road down in 2011 not knowing the danger to children.
A spokesperson for the Nassau Legislature says it requires school district voter approval before it can use funds to construct an access road and relieve the traffic congestion.
