Traffic was backed up for miles at the Tanger Outlets at The Arches in Deer Park Friday afternoon.
A tangle of cars knotted up the parking lot's intersections for much of the day. Police reported receiving multiple calls from drivers who were stuck in their cars for hours.
Chopper 12 was above the congestion as bargain hunters tried chased Black Friday deals, or tried to get home.
Adanma Orjiugo, of Brooklyn, said she sat in the traffic for nearly 5 hours. "God forbid there was an emergency out here," Orjiugo said.
Another shopper told News 12 that she spent an hour and 15 minutes just getting out of her parking space, then she sat in line for another three hours before she escaped the parking lot.
Police arrived at around 4 p.m. to help security workers direct traffic and alleviate the congestion.
"Maybe I'll go somewhere else next year or go online," Orjiugo said. "Less traffic if I stay home in my pajamas and slippers, right?"
