After two major hurricanes ravaged areas in the South, more and more Long Islanders are organizing collection drives to help those impacted by Milton and Helene. The Town of Hempstead will be announcing their efforts later today.

Drop-off locations are going to be set up throughout the township to collect supplies for victims of both hurricanes.

Other communities already helping include the Lions of the Massapequas. Hope Floats Long Island will hold a stuff-a-truck event on Saturday outside the Stop & Shop on Montauk Highway in West Babylon.

As we reported, the Lindenhurst Fire Department drove five trucks full of supplies down to North Carolina.

Members of the Westhampton Beach 103rd Rescue Squadron have boots on the ground in Florida.

“Our guys are subject matter experts, confined space, collapsed structure, high angle tech rescue, basically all of your technical rescue type of skillsets,” said Captain Brian Alfano, director of operations of 103rd Rescue Squadron.

The Town of Hempstead will also assist with the clean-up and relief efforts in Florida.

Town officials say they want to pay it forward, after all the help they received during Superstorm Sandy.
