Old Bethpage Village Restoration plans to host a Tough Mudder race, but some fear the race's impact on the historic property.
The site is set to host the first-ever Tough Mudder Long Island, and thousands are expected.
There are 51 historic buildings on the 209-acre property of Old Bethpage Village Restoration. News 12 Long Island is told the race will pass eight houses but that participants will be far enough away to avoid damage.
Tough Mudder representatives say employees will guide participants to make sure historic buildings are preserved and the property will be cleaned up and returned to its original condition after the competition.
The company is paying Nassau County $30,000 to use the property. The Long Island Visitors and Convention Bureau expects the event to bring $2.5 million into the local economy.
