The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in Islip Terrace Wednesday.
The tornado struck around 9:15 a.m. on Nassau Street, causing extensive damage. The National Weather Service classified it as an EF-1 tornado, meaning the winds ranged from 85 to 110 miles per hour.
Nassau Street residents told News 12 Long Island the tornado littered the street with downed trees and fallen power lines. One homeowner's large metal shed was tossed 30 to 40 feet into his rear neighbor's yard.
No injuries were reported.
