A top Nassau lawmaker has officially endorsed Attorney General Eliot Spitzer for governor Thursday.
Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (unaffiliated-Woodbury) previously supported the gubernatorial campaign of Nassau Executive Tom Suozzi, but now says Spitzer is what the state needs. She says does not think her political relationship with Suozzi will suffer because of her decision.
Suozzi, who trails Spitzer by at least 60 points in the polls for the Democratic primary, says he has no intention of quitting the race. He says endorsements do not matter, only people. He says he plans to submit a petition next week with at least 15,000 signatures to get on the Democratic ballot in September.
