The Brookhaven Town Planning Board voted Monday night to allow Top Golf to construct a facility in Holtsville.
As the board members finalized their vote after 5:30 p.m. in Town Hall, angry residents stood by and held signs in opposition.
As News 12 has reported, the town board already approved the project but had one more meeting Monday to finalize approval from the planning board. The facility is set to be built on the Long Island Expressway service road west of Nicolls Road.
The town says the facility would be the first of its kind in the state. They say it will bring increased tax revenue and up to 500 jobs to the area.
Residents near the project say the entertainment facility will disrupt their neighborhoods. Dorothy Mauri says the project will interfere with the privacy of her property. She also says it will negatively impact the wildlife in the area. Eleanor and Neil Anderson say they worry Top Golf will feature a night club atmosphere that could spill into residential streets. They say it will add to the traffic and noise problems in the area as well.
News 12 reached out to Top Golf for comment on the concerns of residents but has not heard back.
