(11/06/06) WEST ISLIP - One the eve of Election Day all three candidates for Islip Town supervisor are working hard to get out the vote.
Democratic candidate Phil Nolan is riding the wave of anti-Republican sentiment in his bid to make history. If elected, Nolan would become the first Democratic town supervisor since 1967. Meanwhile, after winning a tight primary race, Republican candidate and Islip Town Councilwoman Pamela Greene fiercely campaigns to combat the county's pro-Dem mood. The loser of the Republican primary, Tom Barraga, remains in the race on two minority party lines.
The victor will fulfill the remaining year of disgraced former Town Supervisor Pete McGowan's term. McGowan resigned after his theft of campaign funds sent him to jail.
Islip residents will make another important decision Tuesday. A proposal is on the ballot to establish four districts, which would comprise the town council.
