A Bronx resident says he lost way more than just his apartment after a massive fire tore through a six-story apartment building along Wallace Avenue earlier this month.
Edy Suarez combed through debris and glass last week to recover what he could from his fifth-floor apartment. Luckily, he says police were able to obtain important documents like his Social Security card -- but he says more than $5,000 in savings are no where to be found.
Suarez says despite the fire damage, mostly everything was intact, which makes the loss of his savings a mystery.
"Everything was intact, everything. The fire only damaged our walls and our ceilings. Our bedroom ceilings," said Suarez.
News 12 reached out to Ved Parkash, the landlord of the building once again via phone and email.
The management office responded to News 12 with a prepared statement that says, "We are providing apartments in buildings that we own to any families who are asking to transfer to other housing. Beyond that, we have no further comment since this remains an active fire investigation."
