A teenage girl was badly hurt after being hit by an SUV in Central Islip. 

Police say the 13-year-old was crossing Wheeler Road near Central Islip High School when she was hit by a Nissan Rogue.
             
It happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday.
             
The teen, from Islandia, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries.
             
The driver stayed at the scene and was not hurt.
