A teenager is in custody and police are searching for a second suspect accused of stealing a car and immediately crashing it into a Mastic Beach home on Sunday evening.
Suffolk County police said the pair stole a 2010 Mazda CX-9 on Lynbrook Drive moments before crashing it into a home at 103. The home suffered only minor exterior damage. No one else was injured in the crash.
"I just heard like a loud screeching noise which sounded like someone driving really fast and then a loud boom," said neighbor Katie Mannara.
Exclusive video provided to News 12 showed a group rushing out of the car as it hit a parked car on the road. Then the driver puts the car in reverse and slams into the home.
"The car was like all the way inside," said neighbor Jonathan Villalobos. "It hit the house. It hit the whole porch. Took the whole porch out and then the car was pretty much damaged."
The homeowner told News 12 his wife and kid were home at the time.
Investigators said the two men in the car ran from the scene. It took officers and the canine unit less than two hours to arrest a 16-year-old suspect.
The teen, who police did not identify because of his age, was charged with first-degree robbery.
Police are still searching for the second man who was in the car. Police said it's unclear if the teen in custody was behind the wheel.
"It's pretty sad when kids have to do that to have fun," said neighbor Alice Shultheis.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact the Seventh Squad at (631) 852-8752.
