A 19-year-old boy is accused of slashing another student, a 16-year-old boy, in the face on the first day of school in Fort Greene, police say.

It happened inside the School for Career Development, P.S. K753, just after 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

The NYPD says the 16-year-old suffered a laceration to the face. EMS took him to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he is expected to recover, according to police.

Tyler Smith was taken into custody after the attack. Police say he is charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds and criminal possession of a weapon.

The school does scan for weapons, according to a notice posted outside.

News 12 reached out to the New York City Department of Education for a statement and is awaiting a response as of Thursday night.
