A high school teacher is facing multiple charges after police say he was found unconscious with drugs in his car.
Riverhead town police say they got a call about a vehicle driving over a curb in a parking lot last week in Wading River.
When they got there, officers say Eric Sweet was unconscious behind the wheel.
Sweet was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument.
Sweet works in the social studies department at the Connetquot School District.
The district released a statement, saying in part, "The district has taken measures to ensure that students will not be negatively impacted due to this occurrence."
The Connectquot Cental School District tells News 12 that Sweet has been transferred out of the classroom and to a position where he will not interact with students, pending his legal matters.
Sweet was arraigned on Sept. 1 and posted a $1,000 bond. He is due back in court on Oct. 14.
