Town of Babylon residents may be paying the price for the Tanger Outlet Center set to be built in their neighborhood. Deer Park residents protested when the town approved the project last spring. Now, it looks like the developer may get a tax break. The town?s Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is considering Tanger's request for tax incentives. Residents say they know there is not much they can do to keep the outlet from being built. However, they do have a plan that would give them more control over the project once it is built. That plan is to incorporate Deer Park into a village. That way the village would have a say in traffic patterns and prevent the outlet from expanding. The head of the IDA says a decision on the tax breaks will be made within 45 to 90 days. As for the incorporation of Deer Park, organizers hope to have a request in to town officials by the end of the year.
