Heath officials in Suffolk and Nassau counties have issued a swimming ban at certain beaches.
They say Friday's rain may have pushed bacteria to unsafe levels.
The Suffolk Health Department issued a swimming ban for 62 county beaches.
Swimming is also off-limits at 19 beaches in Nassau County.
The bans and advisories are typically issued following heavy rainfall, because health officials say runoff from storm water can cause bacteria levels to exceed standards.
