Superintendent: Northport Middle School students to be relocated amid environmental probe
Students at Northport Middle School will be relocated effective Thursday due to ongoing environmental issues at the building, According to Robert Banzer, the superintendent of the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District.
News 12 has reported that there have been complaints for years that the school is making students and staff sick. Elevated levels of mercury were detected outside the building, but extensive testing found no detectable levels of mercury vapor.
In a letter sent out to parents, Banzer laid out the plans for the middle school students:
According to the letter, there will be no school for Northport Middle School students on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22. It also says that the relocation plan will be finalized and communicated to families before Thursday, Jan. 23.
