A bullet was found on the floor of a bus Monday in the Riverhead Central School District, according to a letter sent by the acting superintendent.

The district and Riverhead Police Department say the bullet was brought to school staff immediately by a bus driver.

Acting Superintendent of Schools Dr. William Galati said in part, “The investigation is ongoing, and the safety and security of our students, faculty, staff and community remains our highest priority.”

School officials say as soon as they have more information, they will update the community.
