A new plan aims to crack down on the Lyme disease epidemic plaguing Suffolk County.

Legislators have passed a bill, sponsored by Legislator Jay Schneiderman, of Montauk, which directs the county to come up with ways to control ticks.

Officials from Suffolk Vector Control will have a year to study the tick problem and then will make recommendations to county officials about ways to solve the problem.

Some of the recommendations may include efforts to control the deer population, which many East End residents say has gotten out of control.
