Suffolk County plans to test out DNA technology that would help track down stolen goods.
As part of a pilot program, 500 property owners in Huntington Station would get engineered DNA they could use to mark their valuables. That DNA would be registered to that person's name and would be in a database used by police.
All a participant has to do to mark a valuable is dab the liquid DNA on it. Police will be able to use a UV light to identify that the items are marked.
The county will hand out the 500 kits this summer and test them out for six months.
