The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office hosted a recruitment event Tuesday in Brentwood to encourage more females to join law enforcement.
Female correction officers and deputy sheriffs were at Suffolk County College to answer questions.
"It's something that I feel a lot of women don't really think about at a younger age and I think it's an amazing carer with incredible benefits," says Deputy Sheriff Lt. Candice Berezny.
People who attended could also register to take exams.
The recruiting event is part of a nationwide effort to increase the number of women in law enforcement to 30% in the next six years. Currently, around 15.5% of the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department staff are women.
