A Suffolk County police sergeant is accused of targeting Hispanic drivers during traffic stops and then robbing them.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota today announced the arrest of Sgt. Scott A. Greene on charges of official misconduct and larceny, and officials say those charges could be upgraded to include hate charges. Greene allegedly pulled over several Hispanic motorists and stole cash from them.
Spota said police set up a sting using a "bait car" equipped with video cameras to catch Greene stealing from an undercover Latino cop. Greene was arrested last night in Coram by detectives after he was allegedly caught on camera stealing a $100 bill during the sting.
Greene, of Shirley, is a 25-year veteran of the force. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment today and was released on his own recognizance.
Officials tell News 12 there have been three confirmed cases, but they believe there could be more. Anyone who has information is urged to contact Suffolk police.
