Suffolk County police were called to Sachem High School North on Thursday due to an altercation that happened between a teacher and student.
They responded to the Lake Ronkonkoma school at around 9:30 a.m. and tell News 12 it appears the student was the primary aggressor.
The incident reportedly took place during a physical education class while a wrestling drill was underway. The student involved also reportedly stormed out of the building following the altercation. Neither of those details have been confirmed by police.
Students say they are surprised that the teacher would be involved in an incident with a student.
"He's my gym teacher, so he's very nice, I wouldn't expect him to be mean to anyone," says Samantha Photos. "He's nice to literally everyone."
Sachem School Superintendent released on statement, saying, "The district is aware of an isolated incident that occurred between a student and teacher early today at High School North, which has since been addressed. The district does not comment on matters of personnel or individual student disciplinary action. Therefore, the district has no further comment."
No charges have been filed as of 5 p.m. Thursday.
