Suffolk County police are taking steps to ensure peace during Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's second Long Island event Thursday in Patchogue.

Police say thousands of people are expected in and around the Emporium theater as Trump serves as a guest speaker for the Suffolk Republican fundraiser. They have been monitoring social media sites and other sources, and say that they have significant department resources present, including uniformed officers on foot and on bikes, in addition to K-9s and aviation and emergency services.

Suffolk Police Commissioner Timothy Sini says there will significant road closures in the area, with Railroad Avenue near the Emporium closing at 5 a.m. Other streets off Railroad Avenue, including Church and South streets, will be shut down at 2 p.m.

Those with tickets for the fundraiser will have to walk into the venue on foot down Railroad Avenue. People without tickets, looking to either support Trump or protest, will be placed into secure areas on West or Ocean avenues.

Trump's Patchogue visit has been met with protests, as the Emporium is about four blocks away where Ecuadorian immigrant Marcelo Lucero was killed in a hate-crime attack in 2008. Protesters say it is offensive that Trump will be speaking at the Republican fundraiser because of his anti-immigrant remarks.
