A police standoff in Huntington Station that lasted more than five hours is over.

Tactical units could be seen using a battering ram device to break down a garage door at the home on New York Avenue near the Walt Whitman Shops.

Moments later, they walked out with a 55-year-old man, who was escorted to a waiting ambulance.

The tense standoff started at around 3:40 p.m. Monday afternoon. It ended shortly after 9 p.m.

New York Avenue was closed as police tried communicating with the man, who had barricaded himself inside.
