Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and PSEG Long Island are proving 225 pre-registered customers with a free tree ahead of Earth Day.
The goal is to showcase planting the right tree in the right location can reduce utility bills and promote ongoing system reliability.
"It really is something that provides a whole host of benefits," Bellone says. "There are few things you can do that will have more of an impact, a broader impact, or an array of issues related to sustainability and environmental protection and your quality of life than planting a tree."
PSEG Long Island is expected to host a similar event in Nassau County on April 28 for Arbor Day.
