Authorities in Suffolk County came together Monday to announce the state's first fund for animal crime victims.
The fund is in partnership between the Suffolk County Police Department, the Sheriff’s Department, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the Fund for Animal Cruelty Treatment to help cover the cost of care for animals that have been abused.
"Now this assistance from FACTS will allow us to get these animals the proper treatment, care and housing without worrying where the funding for the care will come from," said Errol Toulon Jr., Suffolk Sheriff.
The nonprofit organization FACTS also received a check for $10,000 to help care for animals in need.
