Suffolk's DA says a suspect in the attempted stabbings of two Nassau detectives last year has been indicted.
Eric Terranova, 40, attempted to stab two Nassau detectives in Copiague on March 19, 2022, authorities say. The altercation happened as the detectives responded to Terranova's residence on Buchanan Avenue to investigate allegations that he was making threatening phone calls to Stop & Shop employees in Nassau County.
Authorities say Terranova screamed he was God as he held a switchblade knife, ignored demands to drop the weapon and charged at the detectives. The detectives shot Terranova, who was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and treated for his injuries.
A grand jury declined to charged the detectives for their actions.
"Thankfully, the defendant’s brazen attack on these police officers in broad daylight ended without the loss of life,” said DA Ray Tierney. “It is a stark reminder of the dangers police officers face on a daily basis.”
Terranova is charged with two counts of attempted aggravated assault of a police officer, two counts of attempted assault in the first degree, two counts of menacing a police officer, four counts of attempted assault in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
Terranova was held on $500,000 cash, $1 million bond or $5 million partially secured bond.
