Law enforcement officials confirm Suffolk County Police Officer Sean Mahony has been suspended without pay following his arrest last month.
According to court records, Mahony pleaded not guilty on Monday to two counts of child sex abuse and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
According to defense attorney Anthony La Pinta, Mahony is accused of touching a young boy on two separate occasions, on two separate dates. The victim's mother was the one who reported the alleged incidents.
Mahony, a 22-year veteran of the department, was arrested on Dec. 9.
"These allegations are as bizarre as they are unimaginable," La Pinta said. "Mr. Mahoney adamantly denies these acts. He is a wonderful man, he's a loving husband, a doting father, a brave cop."
La Pinta said the allegations do not involve Mahony's children.
Mahony, who lives in Port Jefferson, was released without bail and the judge issued a temporary order of protection.
He is due back in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead on Feb. 25.
Mahony was one of four officers given the 2009 Silver Shield Award by the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association for responding to an armed shooter in Bellmore in August of that year.
"These allegations are simply outrageous, La Pinta said. "They have devastated his career and his name. We are going to conduct an investigation and we plan to be active in response to these hurtful and devastating comments."
News 12 has reached out to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office for comment but hasn't heard back at this time.
