Districts across Suffolk County are enrolling in the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation's "Say Something" program as part of an effort to encourage school safety.
The program is designed to teach students how to understand signs of distress in their peers, especially on social media, and learn about communicating their needs and concerns to trusted adults.
Say Something provides free downloadable gun-violence prevention programs as well as a hotline that students can call to reach a mental health professional.
