News 12 Long Island has learned that the approved COVID-19 vaccines may also fight infections.
A team at the Mayo Clinic says the Moderna and Pfizer coronavirus vaccines are effective in preventing infection about a month after receiving the first dose.
The study looked at more than 31,000 people who received at least one dose.
The team concluded the vaccines could prevent not only symptomatic disease, but also overall infection.
