Immigrant activists are applauding a just-released report that says federal officials have been raiding the homes of Long Island Hispanics illegally.
The report, prepared by Yeshiva University's Cardozo Immigration Justice Clinic, found that between 2006 and 2008 agents failed to get warrants or consent to enter immigrants? homes 86 percent o f the time.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey lead the panel that completed the report. He had complained of illegal raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, saying they forced Hispanics to prove their citizenship and immigration status.
The Department of Homeland Security says it is backing its agents.
